Benicassim was awarded the coveted prize of “Best Overseas Festival” by the UK Festival Awards 2012.
The UK Festival awards are voted by festival lovers and music industry experts and are highly respected by fans and industry big-wigs alike. I mean we always knew that Benicassim was pretty damn good but to see it voted as Best Overseas Festival 2012 really shows it’s definitely one to include in your calendar for 2013.

The Overseas Festival Award was introduced as increasing numbers of Brits are heading abroad for their festival fix, choosing a different culture, new surroundings or sometimes just more reliable weather over UK based events. The site goes on to state that some of these overseas festivals have become household names the world over for their international appeal and some even have more Brits in attendance than many homegrown medium sized festivals.

This has since been overtaken both in size and popularity by the Edinburgh Fringe which began as a programme of marginal acts alongside the “official” Festival and has become the largest performing arts festival in the world. In 2006, 1867 different shows were staged in 261 venues across the city.
