Benicassim » Flights http://www.benicassim.org.uk Just another WordPress weblog Tue, 31 Aug 2010 12:56:18 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.0.1 Flights from Newcastle http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/flights-from-newcastle/ http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/flights-from-newcastle/#comments Sat, 02 Jan 2010 10:19:03 +0000 admin http://www.benicassim.org.uk/?p=224 As with all the northern UK airports we’ve looked at the only downside with flying from Newcastle is that you can’t fly directly in to Valencia (the closest airport to Benicassim).  If you were feeling bonkers then you could fly to Valencia from Newcastle with 2 changes and at a cost of around 230quid (at time of writing).  Alternatively you could fly into Alicante (only a few hours by car/train from Benicassim) for less than 100quid.  If you’re doing this with a group of mates then the money (and time) you save is well worth it and can even leave you enough left over to hire a really nice car or to buy a shed load of beer tokens when you get to the festival!

You could even fly into Barcelona direct from Newcastle for circa 100quid – if you plan ahead and arrive early (or leave late) then you could even spend an additional day or two exploring some of the fascinating sights that this city has to offer and make a proper holiday of things.

At time of writing EasyJet were offering return flights (incl. taxes etc.) from Stansted to Alicante for just £69, now that’s ludicrously cheap if you ask us!  Although just remember you might have to pay a bit extra on top of that for any hold baggage that you’re taking – trust us you WILL need hold baggage, especially if you’re camping.  You might actually find better flights prices from Heathrow or Gatwick, but it depends on how close you live to each airport as to whether it’s worth it.

At time of writing EasyJet were the airline offering the cheapest flights from Gatwick to Valencia.  With prices on EasyJet starting at around £150 return (incl. taxes).

]]> http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/flights-from-gatwick/feed/ 1 Flights from London Heathrow http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/flights-from-london-heathrow/ http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/flights-from-london-heathrow/#comments Sat, 02 Jan 2010 10:12:09 +0000 admin http://www.benicassim.org.uk/?p=219 Right, if you’re looking to fly from London Heathrow to Beni then you’re on to a winner straight away!  Heathrow is one of the few airports in the UK that provides for what we deem as low cost flights directly to Valencia (VLC) – the airport that is closest to Benicassim town and the festival shinanigans that go down there.  Should you prefer a bit of a road-trip then you can still fly in to Alicante, Madrid or Barcelona and travel by bus, train, road to Benicassim.  However most of you will opt to fly directly to Valencia.

The great thing about flying in to Valecnia is that you can catch the festival bus direct to the campsites at Beni rather than messing about with public transport and/or car hire.

]]> http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/flights-from-luton/feed/ 0 Benicassim Airport http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/benicassim-airport/ http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/benicassim-airport/#comments Wed, 30 Dec 2009 17:20:33 +0000 admin http://www.benicassim.org.uk/?p=210 We just thought we’d clear up a question that we get asked all the time.  Benicassim town (unfotunately) doesn’t have its own airport however there’s a whole load of nearby cities that do!  The closest of which is Valencia (VLC – airport code for when you’re doing price comparison checks online), this is about 1 hr away from the Benicassim festival site – unfortunately for us northerners there doesn’t seem to be any direct flights to VLC from any northern UK airport, this means you’ve either got to fork out £200+ for flights or fly to one of the other nearby cities.  Right, yes, everybody goes for the latter option.  So your next best airports in terms of proximity to Benicassim are:

1) Valencia (VLC) – about 90km (1hr) drive from Benicassim

2) Barcelona (BCN or BLA) – about 260km (2.5hr) drive from Benicassim

3) Alicante (ALC) – about 280km (2.6hr) drive from Benicassim

4) Madrid (MAD) – about 436km (4.5hr) drive from Benicassim

Obviously all of the above depends on how fast you drive and how busy the roads are.  We’d obviously recommend taking it easy, get there a few days early so there’s no mad rush and you can afford to get lost/go the scenic route.  Check out out travel guides for more options on how to get from each of the major Spanish cities to the festival site.

]]> http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/benicassim-airport/feed/ 0 Flights to Benicassim from Leeds Bradford Airport http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/flights-from-leeds-bradford-airport/ http://www.benicassim.org.uk/flights/flights-from-leeds-bradford-airport/#comments Wed, 30 Dec 2009 17:00:18 +0000 admin http://www.benicassim.org.uk/?p=207 Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) is dead handy for anybody living in the Yorkshire region and who can’t be bothered making the trek over the pennines to Manchester, or arguably even worse, Liverpool.  Whilst Yorkshire’s favourite airport is dead convenient unfortunately it doesn’t offer the same range of flights as it’s cross-pennine neighbours.  However, you’ll still find a range of decent prices with a few different airlines direct into Alicante, at time of writing Jet2 came out top with prices from £112 return (including taxes) which we think is pretty reasonable if not ever so slightly more expensive than some of the fares available from Manchester or Liverpool.  But then by the time you’ve paid for petrol/train/taxi money over to Manchester or Liverpool you’re worse off anyway so Leeds is definitely worth a look.

We all live in Manchester but didn’t realise that we could have flown from Manchester for the same or less money than we paid to fly from Liverpool. Regardless of this, if you live in North West England it’s still well worth checking out the options from Liverpool and Manchester in order to save the maximum cash when flying out to Benicassim! You’ve also got the added benefit of the cheap and dirty option with Ryanair when you choose to fly from Liverpool (Ryanair only fly to Dublin from Manchester).

Valencia is the closest major airport to Benicassim, unfortunately there are no longer any direct flights to Valencia from Manchester.  Several airlines (Lufthansa etc.) do offer indirect flights to Valencia, however the additional time and cost of these flights makes them an unviable option.  To get to Benicassim from Manchester we’d strongly recommend flying in to Alicante and then driving or getting a train to Benicassim.
